Reset The Atari = Insane Scottish Bass

I recently had the pleasure of discovering some music that didn’t make me start whinging about presets and obvious sounds that im bored of, which for me these days is quite an achievement (im becoming quite a miserable critic in my old age!).

Combining an old skool vibe, with some new skool heavyness RTA is genuinly “tickling my fancy!“, so without further ado i would like to introduce you to the awesome sounds of Scotlands “Reset The Atari”

Have yourselves a listen :

First up, the nostalgia inducing “Mash the Piano”

Next up, poo in your pants at the sound of  “Harbinger”

Theres a load more bass heavy joy on the RTA Soundcloud,  including the absolutely bonkers “Dog Bark Bass“, so pay the man a visit and show some love.

Mutant Bass 1st EP: Abrasion Invasion

Kanji Kinetic’s brand new netlabel is dedicated to bringing you heavyweight bass music… for FREE! I’m sure it’s going to do smashingly, as the first release is a blinder.

Featuring the likes of rrritalin, Submerse, The McMash Clan and Kanji himself, it’s a rollercoaster of rave, breaks, kicks and bassdirt.

Check out the SoundCloud player below, and then hit the free download link!

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix)

Well hello there my fellow bass-friendly peeplops. Just thought I’d share this piece of filth by the fantastic Zeds Dead, who recently played at the Warehouse Project. Enjoy!

Well, it’s official! My first EP will be out, on Beatport, on the 13th October. It’ll be the first release on new label THaF Records, and will consist of tracks In The Party, Funky Feeling and Wreck The Discotheque.

In The Party E.P. – Out 13th Oct on THaF Records by Heapy

Scratch that glitch…

Glitch (or Wonky/Boogie/Lazer Bass/etc…) has been gaining momentum for the past couple of years now with influences including all sorts from downbeat, jazz, hip-hop, acid and dubstep to the noise your old Commodore 64 made when it threw a fit. It also seems to have collected as many genre names as there are producers (but don’t call it aquacrunk or you’ll make Flying Lotus cry, and also it sounds stupid).

Tracks can range from the relatively laid back, spaced-out hip-hop of people like The Gaslamp Killer up to the heavier, 8-bit influenced tracks by Rustie, edIT and the like. Infact the only thing that really links alot of the music together is a general sense of off kilter head-fuckery brought on by off beat drums and synth rhythms.

So, if you think that sounds like it’s up your alley (or you already know full well it is) then here’s some free tracks from recent glitch releases we like for you to wrap your ears around:

Sugarpill – Some Say The (from Flow Goggles EP)

This one, taken from L.A DJ/Producer Sugarpill’s new Flow Goggles EP, is more on the wobbly side of things with plenty of low bass and dubstep influenced beats. Get the free track from his site here or go here to buy the full EP at Juno. You can also check his blog for plenty of other tracks and mixes.

Dam Mantle – Theatre ( from Purple Arrow EP)

A more laid back sound for this one, good end of the night music for when you’re feeling slightly more, er, “fragile”. You have to sign up to the mailing list here to get the free download but you can also check out the streaming version of the full EP while you’re there and order the 12″ vinyl which includes a digital download as well.

Error Broadcast / Various Artists – Fly Russia (Full Album)

The Error Broadcast label is easily my favourite recent find, surely in the running for the ‘most generous bastards’ award. They offer free, low quality (192kbps, so not that low) versions of a good number of their albums, along with free beat tapes and mixes. This particular gem is a collection by Russian glitch producers that ranges from chilled out to “Oh my god my NES is going to explode”. Grab the download here or follow the links to buy the high quality version featuring extra tracks.

Enjoy!

The Squire Of Gothos – We Do Scorpion Thingz

Heard the preview for this yesterday and have been wanting to post it ever since. Random panic based fuckery got in the way but if you have a listen to the tracks below, you’ll see what I mean.

The Squires have carved an interesting sound for themselves, with the objective of making you dance like a fool while simultaneously feeling like your mind has gone wrong. Personal favs so far are Lypo, Old Skool Shit VIP, Harder Things and Emptyin Full Clips but every track is sounding stronger than some kind of steroid / cement combo.

Its out on October 11th at all the usual places, and a few weird ones, through the mighty Rag & Bone imprint…..

Coldcut ‘Journeys By DJ’ Free Mixtape

Now then, anybody out there that knows me, will probably remember that I’m not easily impressed , maybe to the point that you think I’m a miserable bastard, But every now and again theres an exception that leaves me  so chuffed that I never stop bangin on, to the point where I become slightly irritating.

Coldcuts mashup mix “Journeys by DJ” has been the benchmark that I scale most mixes on these days, and with the exception of the Ninja Tune “Solid Steel” series, in my eyes/ears nothing has ever come close to the joy brought to me by this piece of audio artwork (im touching my penis now just thinking about it!).

Now for a limited time as part of their 20th anniversary  Ninja Tune are offering a free download of this masterpiece, and all you have to do is quickly register (it took me less than a minute) and then download the mother bugger.
